Fixing GTA IV’s Performance
[Fixing GTA IV’s Performance
GTA IV runs terribly on PC, however with DXVK, you can easily get the game running much better, greatly improving GTA IV’s frame rate.
In this video I’ll show you some frame rate comparisons between the vanilla game and DXVK, and then I’ll show you how to install DXVK for GTA IV, massively reducing stutters and improving the games performance.

READ! – UPDATES/NOTES:
-You only need to install d3d9.dll from the DXVK archive for this to work, you don’t need the other .dll files included. Might be nicer for those of you looking to keep your game folder looking neat.
-The “-noprecache” line in commandline isn’t actually needed and might be a hindrance if anything.
-DXVK won’t work for all GPUs unfortunately, typically older models won’t work. It’s possible other versions of DXVK work with them, but you’d have to test on your system.
-The game may stutter a bit after installing DXVK due to shader compilation. This is normal and it should reduce significantly after a few minutes of play. If your game is still getting significant stutters after playing with DXVK for a while, your PC likely just doesn’t play well with DXVK. This could be for many reasons, but it’s impossible for me to tell you.
-For those of you unable to change your resolution after installing DXVK, create a new file inside your GTA IV folder called “dxvk.conf” (make sure the file type is “conf”). Open this file with a text editor like Notepad, then add the following line “d3d9.forceAspectRatio =” followed by your screen’s aspect ratio. So, if you play at 1080p, the setting should look like this – “d3d9.forceAspectRatio = 16:9”.
-If playing at a high frame rate (over 60 frames per second), you should use FusionFix, which locks the games cutscenes to 60 frames per second to stop them from bugging out. Apparently bikes also bug out at high frame rates (over 60 frames per second), so overall it’s recommended to lock your frame rate to 60.
-While there are people recommending other “necessary” fixes in the comments, a lot of them aren’t necessary. So just be careful as to why modifications you make, when your game might not require them.
