Steps to fix a carriage jam error on the HP ENVY 5540 printer:
Clear jammed paper from the output and input trays, underneath the printer, and the ink cartridge access area.
Remove and reinstall the ink cartridges.
Plug the printer’s power cord directly into a wall outlet.
Reset the printer.
If none of these steps remove the paper jam error, service the printer.
